The greatest footballer of our time, and perhaps the greatest footballer of all time, comes to the United States for the twilight of his career. Lionel Messi, 36, has officially joined Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, the club announced Saturday in a release.
His contract promises to stay with the team until the 2025 MLS season.
“I am very excited to start the next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States,” Messi said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity and together we will continue to build this beautiful project.”

He is due to join the team next week and will make his debut for Inter Miami in the Concaf League Cup against Cruz Azul (Mexico) on 21 July.
A football prodigy from an early age in Argentina, Messi moved to Spain to sign for Barcelona at the age of 13 and quickly became a hot young player. He made his debut for the first team at the age of 16 and went on to have an illustrious career with the team, winning all the major trophies and winning six Ballon d’Or among the best players in the world. He moved to Paris St. Petersburg. In 2021 Germain won the Ballon d’Or again, and although they failed to win the Champions League, the team won the French league.
He has been almost the leader of the Argentine national team since his debut in 2005 and added the final missing trophy to his collection when he won the World Cup with Argentina last summer.
